Legislation: is it in force?

Image showing Legislation.gov.uk web site

Legislation may be amended or repealed over time, so it is important to read the most up to date revision. Its also important to bear in mind that legislation may not come into force immediately after it has been passed by Parliament, so its important to check when a provision will come into force. This is known as the commencement date.

Legal databases such as Lexis and Westlaw UK include revised versions of legislation in force, with
information about commencement for individual sections. These databases also have links to the text of other relevant legislation and case reports.

Legislation.gov.uk is the official government web site for original (as enacted) and revised versions of legislation.
